  • Be a PayPal business subscriber. As you may know, PayPal offers several types of accounts. You must have an account for Business.
  • Have the permissions to sell on your site. This limitation is sometimes due to the geographical area. We recommend that you check the terms and conditions for your country.

Overview of payment gateways and online sales

To sell online, you need to integrate a payment gateway like PayPal to connect your website to your bank account. A payment gateway is simply an intermediary software that serves as a transition between your website and your bank account. In most cases, you subscribe to an online gateway, and then the company that owns the solution gives you a way to add their solution to your website. Subsequently, when the customers make the payments, you can log into your gateway provider account to complete the transfer according to their terms. PayPal button

To integrate PayPal, you need to configure your button. On one side, there is a form to customize your button, and on the other side is the preview. In the “button detail” dialogue box, there are three options.

  • Fixed price: You must enter a price in your basic configuration. This option is ideal if you have one or more products, so you know the prices. For example, if you are a blogger offering an e-book to your customers, you can choose the fixed price option and the other details requested to do the setup.
  • Single-select list: You need to create an option list from which your customers will need to choose an option before making payment. This option can be useful if you have a product with different configurations. For example, you have a T-Shirt of different sizes that you offer to your customers.
  • Variable price: this allows customers to enter the price they would like to pay themselves. Note that this option is ideal for nonprofits. For companies that offer services and would like to give their customers the possibility to advance payment.

If you are watching the video, we have chosen the Fixed Price option as an example.

To finalize your button configuration, add your product description. Then add the price by specifying your country’s currency (for example, CAD, USD). If you eventually offer your customers deliveries, don’t forget to add the price to your configuration.

NB: PayPal gives you the possibility to add taxes

If you request tax from your customers when paying for your products, you can include it during setup. For example, in Quebec, some businesses with a Tax Number must charge approximately 15% more from their customers.

Once you are done with the configuration, click “Copy code.”
