You surely heard a lot about how great WordPress website is. For this reason, you are becoming more an more interested in building your own website with WordPress; but you don't know how to do. If you want to learn how to build a website with WordPress, read this article. In fact, there are basically two ways to build a WordPress website. You can either go directly to their website
or you can download
and install on your own server. In the first case, it is really straightforward as you just need to fill WordPress' form. In this article, we will focus on the second method which consists of self-hosting WordPress. If you need an advice on how to do that on WordPress platform, please send us
an email. I will structure the article in 6 steps.
Step 1: Choose a hosting company for your WordPress Website
The choice of the right hosting company is really crucial for a WordPress website. For instance, the server needs to have some basic requirements such as the Disk space, memory limit, PHP version or even bandwidth to ensure that your website functions properly. For this reason, I will strongly advise to compare hosting companies and make sure that they can provide what you need before signing. Some of the hosting companies that I can personally recommend are HostPapa
, and JustHost
. I do believe that there are many others out there. One thing you could do is to go on the WordPress official website
and copy server requirements for hosting companies.
Step 2: Choose a domain name for your WordPress Website
I do believe that if you want to use WordPress, it is because you want to have a website. For this reason, you will need to buy a domain name. In order to get one, you can either check if your hosting company provide that option or search for domain providers. One of the popular domains providers is Godaddy
. Note that if you choose your domain name elsewhere than to your hosting provider, you will need to change the DNS record of your domain to point to your server.
Step 3: Download or use the quick installation tool to configure WordPress
Some hosting companies provide quick installation tools for popular CMS. If you have that available on your server, you can take advantage of that to start your WordPress configuration. On the other hand, if your server does not have that, don't worry. You can easily get the software by clicking on this link download WordPress
Step 4: Prepare Database, username, password, and hostname for WordPress configuration
In this step, you will need to create your database credentials. In case you haven't yet read this article, I will refer you to this link https://www.prositeweb.ca/install-wordpress-web-server-five-steps/
. You will be able to learn how to install WordPress on your own server.
Step 5: Buy or pick a free template to start your website.
The layout of WordPress is really straightforward. In fact, the default setting has few tabs. In order to install your template, you can go Appearance -> Themes.
And from there, you can either choose a free template from the list all template provided by templates developers. On the other hand, you can purchase and upload your template by clicking on the link Add New
at the top left. Note that if you get your template from some popular templates seller such as ThemeForest,
you might find a theme with sample data or other features for non-developers.
Step 6: visit your website and start customizing your pages
If you followed all the steps successfully, you can go to your new URL to see your website.
